Monday Morning Encouragement...
What are we chasing after?
This question has been on my mind lately and if I’m honest with myself, I know my heart is chasing after too much…
Last Friday I was thinking about all of it and had a bit of a melt down on my bed. What’s so incredibly humbling in that moment is that the Holy Spirit was actually correcting me, but in a way I really couldn’t believe!
In the form of a POEM!
People… I am NOT a poet by any stretch of the imagination and yet it flowed from me and hit home so deeply I was sobbing as I wrote it. That’s how I know it wasn’t just me writing it. It’s very raw and personal and I’m not sure I’ll share it here, maybe I’ll put in my book… but wow.
What I was reminded of though in that moment is that we can get so focused on what we WANT to do, that we don’t rely on the Lord’s direction for what He has ALREADY PLANNED for us to do.
It’s much more simple than we think friends!
We don’t need to go here or there, or do this or that, or weave back and forth between all the things that want to take our time and attention away from God. What we need is to live our lives in such a way that we can walk forward on that straight and narrow road that leads to the LIGHT of the world… Jesus Christ! (Matthew 7)
Need answers? Need direction?
God has already spoken and revealed Himself to you and I through His Word.
So the question becomes then: Are we listening and doing something with what we’ve heard?
Hebrews 12:35 says: See that you don’t refuse Him who speaks.
We need to develop a habit of listening. Making God’s Word a part of our daily lives and seeking to understand it. Praying and asking the Holy Spirit to show us what to do. Then, and only then, can we know and test what we hear outside of God’s Word to see if it stands up to His truths and His will for our lives. So when we think we heard the Holy Spirit speaking to us, we can test the scriptures and not lean on our own understanding, but have confirmation from God’s Holy Word that Yes… this in what God is calling you to do.
One of my favorite verses in the OT is 1 Samuel 3:9 “Speak Lord, for your servant hears.” another translation says… “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.” I love that so much. I can’t remember the book, but I read something somewhere that taught to ask that in our prayer life. Samuel was just a young boy when the Lord was speaking to him here. We could all use the fresh wisdom of God in our lives, right? I think this is a good way to humbly come to the Father in prayer and I can tell you I have experienced the goodness and fruit from that many times in my life.
There’s so much more here I could say. But I hope this little bit of encouragement today will give you hope and light in a confusing world.
Let’s all take a few minutes today to open our Bibles and read God’s wisdom for our lives. Proverbs or Psalms is a great place to start.
Have a great day! I’ll be back tomorrow for Love, Tuesday… and it will be about LOVE!
Hugs,
