Book stack time…

I thought today I’d share some books I’m reading in 2023!

Since we’re in a rental and I don’t have much here, I can’t share my book stack from 2022, but on this little shelf sits a few I took with me.

Most of these books are ones I’m wanting to dig into this year, so in the few next photos I’ll share what’s on the deck next…

My non-fiction choices revolve around learning more about God, first and foremost. My Bible’s not pictured but is the first book I pick up in the morning.  I’m also reading about the present day smorgasbord of false teachings and lies that are creeping into our churches. This is something the Lord put on my heart last year to be aware of so that our retreats are biblically sound, and wow has the Lord opened my eyes to a lot! (More on that coming soon too)

And because of this, the last few years I’ve found myself going back to the great theologians of the past for sound doctrine, and I’d encourage you to bring the classics into your library as well. (Spurgeon, J.I. Packer, Tozer, C.S. Lewis)

My fiction choices are very random. One was a gift from Rebecca (The Lost Vintage) because she knows me so well. The English one was a thrift store find, and the one in the middle is one I bought after reading another book from this author that Rebecca found in a “little library” in Denver on one of her walks!

Did I ever mention how much we LOVE finding these little library boxes in random places? I’ll share a video later on of the cute one across the street from us! (I think I’ll leave one of these fiction books in it when I’m done reading it) 📚

There’s one more book that I’m almost finished with, and it’s a must read. It’s called “Counterfeit Kingdom” by Holly Pivec and R. Douglas Geivett. It’s an invaluable source if you’re wanting to learn more about some of the deceptions that are creeping into our churches through the “New Apostolic Reformation.” If you haven’t heard about this movement, you probably know about it, but just don’t know it by name. I have been doing research on it this past year and have a ton of links and podcasts I can share with you if you want to know more. Friends, the Bible warns of these things throughout the NT and it’s why it’s very important to be rooted in God’s Word, it why we must know what we believe, so we can discern truth from lies. So we can point people to Christ, and Christ alone.

So that’s it for now… I’m sure I’ll be adding to my stack throughout the year. (In fact I just took Isabella to the bookstore and I picked up a couple more! hahaha)

I’d love to see your stack too, so tag me in it or share it in the comments below! And let everyone know in the comments your favorite book of 2022, and what you’re excited to read in 2023!

I think I’ll share my favorite podcasts soon too, bc that’s one thing I really got into last year and love listening to in the car.

Hugs to all,

Laura

Post Edit: This was originally shared on my IG this past week, but I’m sharing them on here b/c I know many of you are not on social media. I’ll be sharing my IG posts on here going forward, the only difference will be that I can’t share the Reels on here like on IG.
