My Favorite Art Supplies in 2024

Favorite Art Supplies in 2024 - Art and Faith Creative Retreats

Happy Monday morning everyone!

You may have seen me on Instagram last week trying to post a video with all my favorite art supplies and how to pack them for a trip.

So… I’m going to try this again, in THIS blog post.

I was also hinting about a trip I’m about to go on… A trip that is VERY last minute!

Do you want to know where I’m going with my art supplies??

Well, I got a call from someone in Bellagio, Italy that invited us to be a part of a 60 year celebration in the town! I’m so honored to have been asked to be a part of it, but was a little shocked it was less than two weeks away. (I even asked if he was saying THIS March or next March… b/c it was coming up so quickly! lol) So I talked with Lance and Rebecca about it, prayed about it and we’ve decided that Rebecca and I would go!

So we’re headed to Bellagio THIS week and would love prayers for safety, for deeper connections with the people we love there (and new people the Lord brings into our lives there each time) and for the Lord to work in ways that He alone can work. I’ll share the story of it all at this years retreats, but for now I’d really love prayer for a wonderful trip that honors Christ above all.

Now onto the video on my favorite art supplies of 2024…

As most of you know, I started a new journey on January 1st where I wanted to learn more about all different art mediums, how to draw better and learn perspective and spend more time creating art. Like my bio on IG says: I want to encourage the connection between creativity and our Creator… so I’ve been carving out time each day this year to draw, sketch or paint.

And in this process of learning and sharing on IG, a lot of you have asked me about these art supplies so I want to share them all with you today! So without further ado:

Here’s the video of my favorite art supplies:

This video would be great to watch if you’re joining one of our retreats this year or next. These are a lot of the art supplies we’ll be using so I’ve tried to list them all down below (and on YouTube). But since it’s my first video with links on YouTube, they have a 24 verification process before the links will work on their site, so click the links below if you want to check them out now.

Markers & Pens:

Faber Castell - Dual Aqua Markers

Faber Castell - Ecco Pigment Pens

Ecoline Markers

Uni Pin - Fine Line Pen

Uni Posca - Acrylic Paint Markers (I bought this in a 6 pack, but you can buy them individually as well)

Archer & Olive - Acrylograph White Pen/Marker

Pencils & Crayons:

Caran d’Ache - Supercolor II Soft Colored Pencils

Caran d’Ache - Neocolors II I bought a small set first, then bought individually the colors I wanted to add to my collection.

Faber Castell - Goldfaber Pencil in 4H

Stabilo - Aquarellable Pencil

Derwent - Drawing Pencil in Chinese White

Gouache:

Winsor & Newton - Designer Gouache I ordered this set first and then bought the other colors I wanted individually afterwards.

Holbein Artists - Gouache This is an investment, so either buy a primary set that you can blend colors with, or buy a few of your favorite colors individually.

Miscellaneous:

Canon Ivy Printer

Film for Ivy Printer

Travel Case for Ivy Printer

Instax Printer This is the one I have used for years at the retreats! If you want a real looking poloroid, then this one is going to be that.

Instax Film

Ruler

Pencil Sharpener for colored pencils - This is my FAV pencil sharpener! But for Travel it’s better to use this one.

Glue Tape Runner Tombow is the best. Whatever you do, do NOT use Adtech brand. It does not stick long term, and many years of scrapbooking pages are ruined b/c everything fell off!

Ranger - Water mister

Eraser in pencil form

Travel Art Easel

Sketchbooks & Journals:

Stillman & Bern - Nova Series Premium Sketchbook in Beige Paper

Royal Talens - Art Creations Sketchbooks This is the yellow one I showed you, but they come in all different colors and sizes.

Moleskin - Cahier size Watercolor Notebook - This is the one that fits inside my Travelers Notebook

Yellow Paperhouse - Sketchbook Notebook - Cahier Size

Cadeneta Notebooks - Weekly Planner in Standard Size

Travelers Notebooks designed by me & handmade in Italy

My Travel Bible (FYI… It’s only the New Testament) (This is the smallest Bible I take with me and the one you’ve seen on my IG. It’s only the New Testament, but it’s interleaved, meaning every right sided page is blank so you can take notes or Bible Journal.

Travel Art Bags:

Green Pen/Marker Holder

Bigger Art Bag

Yellow Tote Bag This is the one I decided to go with!

Bellagio, Italy custom stickers: A sweet girl on Etsy did some cute travel sticker for me of Bellagio Italy! They are on her Etsy page, and if you’ve been to Bellagio with me I think you might want them too:

Bellagio Stickers

There are many more items I could share with you, but I think this is a great start. Don’t think you need to buy all of these items if you’re joining us on a retreat. Pick one new thing and play around with it so you become familiar with it and see if it’s something you’d want to get a few of your favorite colors in. It’s taken me years to build up my art supplies, know what I like and don’t like, and this was to help you not waste money on art supplies that may not work for you either.

As I end this post, I really want to encourage you to look at your day and see where you can carve out some time to be creative, find joy in the process (it’s NOT about perfection) and relax your mind. Studies have proven how healthy it is to take up a hobby because it helps take your mind off current stresses/trials in life… and I think being creative is a gift from God that opens our eyes to His beauty even more!

AND…

If you’ve wanted to join us in Italy… there are 2 apartments left for our retreat in Bellagio this June, but not for long! Two families had to cancel, so I’m praying about letting these apartments go soon. If you’re invested in this retreat, please reach out via the contact page on this website and we can discuss a small discount for one of these rooms (because of the cancellations) but that discount will only last for this next week, as I will be in Bellagio and will be talking with the apartment manager about letting them go.

Here’s the Registration page for the retreat June 22-29:

Lake Como, Italy Retreat

Have a GREAT day everyone!

Laura
